Black Veil Brides - Rebel Love song (Video)

The new band that everyone loves to hate. We have one every couple of years or so, with Bring Me The Horizon being the last one, until they convinced everyone that they are actually decent, halting the constant shouts of “dat iz not metuhlz”. Now, however, the band we all love to hate is Black Veil Brides, who burst onto the scene from absolutely nowhere. Well, actually, they burst onto the scene from Hollywood, California, but you get what I mean. Two years, they were virtually unknown in the music world. But all of a sudden, a massive hype has being built up around the interesting-looking metal five-piece. Their latest album, Set The World On Fire, has performed exceedingly well in the charts and produced three singles, including this latest one, 'Rebel Love Song'. They have taken their influence-clad brand of Hollywood metal to the masses, at long last. Black Veil Brides are only on the up.

What I like about Black Veil Brides is the fact that their music differs from their image. I was surprised when I first heard Set The World On Fire, as I was expecting screams from the black heart of hell combined with riffs from the devil’s rectum. So, when I actually did listen to the album, I was impressed by the US metallers brand of concise, glam-tinged, punk-laden heavy metal. Think Murderdolls with a little more shazam and a lot more make-up and the like, and you have Black Veil Brides.

"Black Veil Brides have produced a great song in 'Rebel Love Song', so in my view, they deserve to be where they are right now."

This is the problem with 'Rebel Love Song'. It’s all very Hollywood. It appears to be a little fake, almost. Obviously it’s not, but it has that kind of feel to it, if you get what I mean. For my tastes, it’s way overproduced and over-planned, which maybe detracts something from the genre of music Black Veil Brides play. That’s all the bad I can extract from the song, so that should tell you how much I like it!

The thing that I am definitely impressed with is the standard of musicianship. Whilst it is evidently well produced, it’s very clear that Black Veil Brides can play their instruments. Guitarists Jake Pitts and Jinxx don’t just provide the simple riff, but background harmonies that you’d expect to hear from Avenged Sevenfold’s Synyster Gates. The complicated percussion parts are a credit to Christian “CC” Coma for progressing the Black Veil Brides’ sound. In addition to this, the maturation of Andrew “Andy Six” Biersack’s voice has definitely pushed their sound even further towards the good end.

'Rebel Love Song' is a fantastic song. I don’t quite understand why there is an element of hate surrounding the band - perhaps it’s because of their image, or maybe it’s the fact that they are actually successful. At the end of the day, however, it’s the music that matters. Black Veil Brides have produced a great song in 'Rebel Love Song', so in my view, they deserve to be where they are right now. Nobody is gonna tell these Hollywood hookers to stand down, hell no.
